More than 200 Rice student-athletes with grade point averages (GPA) of 3.0 or better were honored during a halftime presentation Saturday at the Rice-Texas Tech football game. Those honored made the Conference USA (C-USA) honor roll during the 2006-07 academic year.

Rice earned C-USA’s Institutional Excellence Award for the second straight year in 2006-07 for maintaining the highest GPA for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports.

Rice student-athletes had a combined annual GPA of 3.031, with seven Rice teams representing their respective sport’s top GPA. Those teams — women’s basketball, football, women’s soccer, men’s track and field, women’s track and field, men’s tennis and women’s tennis — were each acknowledged during Saturday’s halftime celebration.

Special honors went to Rice’s five C-USA scholar student-athletes of the year: Marissa Daniels (women’s cross country), Dominique Karas (women’s tennis), Aaron Robinson (men’s cross country), Luke Stadel (men’s track and field) and Callie Wells (women’s track and field).
