Rice’s Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management will be the inaugural lead academic sponsor for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) 18th Annual Conference and Career Expo Oct. 4-6 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
“The conference allows invaluable opportunities for personal and professional growth in a highly charged learning environment,” said Bill Glick, Jones School dean and the H.J. Nelson III Chair.
Titled “Leading with Influence,” the conference will provide master of business administration (MBA) students and business professionals from across the nation prominent access to professional development seminars and networking events. The event attracted a record 6,700 attendees at its national conference held last year in Cincinnati.
In 1988, a group of Hispanic MBA students sought to remedy the lack of visibility of Hispanics within corporate management and the public sector and reverse Hispanic underrepresentation and declining enrollment in graduate business schools. They formed the nonprofit NSHMBA to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development. Since then, the organization has grown to 29 chapters and 6,000 members in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
The Houston chapter hopes to make an immediate impact on the development and visibility of Hispanic students, MBAs and professionals in Texas and beyond.
The goals of NSHMBA are to increase the enrollment of Hispanics in graduate management programs; assist business organizations in the recruitment, development and promotion of Hispanic business professionals; and engage in networking and community events to provide Hispanic professionals with opportunities for career growth, leadership development and entrepreneurship.
