Although R.S.V.P.s are no longer being accepted because the event has reached seating capacity, the lecture can be viewed live on the Baker Institute’s Web site.

McClellan became director of the Brookings Institution’s Engelberg Center last July. The center seeks to provide practical solutions for the challenges of access, quality and financing facing the U.S. health-care system.

McClellan has a distinguished record in public service and in academic research. He is the former administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (2004-06) and the former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (2002-04). He served on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and as senior director for health-care policy at the White House (2001-02). In the Clinton administration, McClellan served as deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury for economic policy (1998-99).
