The Rice Outdoor Programs and Education (ROPE) ventured to the Lost Maples State Natural Area, located near Vanderpool, Texas, for a weekend of hiking Nov. 3-4.

Students Ann Wang, Martel College senior, and Grant Hayes. Lovett College junior, joined trip leaders Rodrigo Fernandez, graduate student in environmental science, and Liz Harwood, assistant director of aquatics and outdoor programs, on the adventure.

ROPE, an extracurricular recreation program, gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, rock climbing, horseback riding, caving and canoeing.

ROPE’s final trip for the semester is scheduled for Nov. 17, when the group will go caving at Whirlpool Cave near Austin.
