An article on MSN.com featured the Coldwell Banker College Home Price Comparison Index. Rice was listed as the ninth most affordable college market with a home price of $169,736 in 2007. Among the most expensive were Stanford University, $1.67 million; University of California, Berkeley, $1.28 million; and Northwestern University, $708,000.
Rice also was mentioned in a Virgin Island Daily News column on finding the right fit in a college. In discussing colleges that are “best buys,” columnist Chris Teare, a certified educational planner, described Rice this way:
“It looks to me as if plenty of the cash in Exxon’s hometown went straight into bricks, mortar and brains at Rice. Combining residential-college living modeled on Yale and academics inspired by Cooper Union and Princeton, Rice is outstanding in everything from architecture to nanotechnology. When I toured the Baker Institute and saw pictures of a slew of visiting world leaders, I saw power.”
