Rice Readers and the Staff Development Committee will host a discussion led by John Boles, the William Pettus Hobby Professor of History. The program, “University Builders: Edgar Odell Lovett and the Founding of Rice Institute,” takes place at noon Nov. 27, in Anne and Charles Duncan Hall’s McMurtry Auditorium.
The program is the fascinating story of Edgar Odell Lovett and the school he created. Today, Rice is distinguished as both the smallest and youngest institution in the top tier of American universities. In telling the tale of Lovett and his innovative vision for Rice, Boles will provide both a compelling biographical narrative and a view of American higher education in the first half of the 20th century.
