“Campaign 2008: The Issues Considered. What Can the Next President Do to Reform U.S. Health Care?” takes place Feb. 26 at Baker Hall’s Doré Commons, hosted by the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy and the Baker Institute Health Policy Forum.

As the 2008 U.S. presidential election approaches and health care is the leading domestic policy issue that voters want the next president to address, Americans are alarmed by the rising costs of health insurance and health care. At the same time, more than 40 million uninsured Americans are receiving inadequate care and placing increasing strains on the U.S. health-care system. Part of the Baker Institute’s series “Campaign 2008: The Issues Considered,” this event will consider the key steps that the next president must take to reform the U.S. health-care system. Key policy issues regarding health insurance coverage, controlling health-care costs and financing health care reform will be discussed.

The speakers include Karen Davis, president of the Commonwealth Fund, and Jonathan Skinner, the John Sloan Dickey Third Century Professor of Economics at Dartmouth College.

The event is free and open to members of the Rice community. R.S.V.P. by fax at 713-348-5993 or e-mail bipprsvp@rice.edu. Visit http://www.bakerinstitute.org/Event_View.cfm?EID=698 for more information.
