Students gathered Feb. 16 at Rice Memorial Center for Soul Night, the annual cultural show sponsored by the Black Student Association (BSA).

This year, the BSA teamed with the Caribbean Student Society to host a variety show, which was themed “From Hope to Freedom,” said Alicia Burns-Wright, president of the BSA.

Jones College members Max Paul and Andrea Jackson organized the event, which was directed and performed by Rice students.

“They designed a show that displayed our African and Caribbean roots, the Harlem Renaissance, the period of the civil rights movement and beyond through poetry, music, dance and acting,” Burns-Wright said.

Food for the event was provided by Lemond Catering owner and Rice alumna Merinda Watkins-Martin ’91.
