The NCAA annually awards 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies. Recipients must be seeking admission or have been accepted into a sports administration or related program that will help them obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics.

A senior walk-on from Beaumont, Carmon has been a consistent performer for the Rice women’s track and field team in both the sprints as well as the long jump and triple jump. At the Conference USA Indoor Championships Feb. 29-March 1, she placed fifth in the long jump and seventh in the 60 meter hurdles as the Owls won their second consecutive Conference USA Indoor team title.

The scholarship programs were developed by the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee with the goal of increasing the pool of and opportunities for qualified minority and female candidates in intercollegiate athletics.
