Rice College Bowl team wins regionals, on to nationals

   Rice
University’s College Bowl team took first place in the Association of
College Unions International (ACUI) Region 12 Tournament held Feb. 22
and 23 at the University of Houston. Twelve teams from Arkansas and
Texas competed for the chance to represent Region 12 at the 2008
National Championship Tournament in April. There the team will compete
against 14 other regional championship teams and a wild-card team
selected at random among the second-place regional teams for the
National Championship.

Rice has participated in every ACUI
Region 12 tournament since its inception 30 years ago. Rice won the
national tournament in 1991 and placed second in 1982. Rice also was a
champion during the years that College Bowl ran on TV during the ’60s,
retiring a five-time champion in 1966.
