Calling for all green thumbs

Have an interest in gardening? Want to learn about sustainable organic gardening? Rice has several community gardens on campus, and members of the Rice community are invited to get their hands dirty.

Workdays will be held at 8 a.m.:

• Saturday, June 21, at the Wiess College garden

• Tuesday, June 24, at the Hanszen College garden
• Tuesday, July 1, at the Hanszen College garden
• Tuesday, July 8, at the Martel College garden
• Saturday, July 12, at the Martel College garden

Some of the jobs to be done on these workdays include weeding, staking and training blackberry bushes and citrus trees, maintaining compost bins, planting, plant care and mulching. Experienced gardeners will be on hand to answer any questions.
