Fund created for construction workers

Fund created for construction workers

Lucia Group has established two funds to help employees who were involved in last Thursday’s tragic incident at a residential college construction site at Rice University.

The Juan Romero Family Survivors Fund was created on behalf of the family of Juan Romero, who died at the scene. The Ayala, Chinchilla, Guzman, Martin, Moreno, Padilla and Puente Family Fund will accept  contributions for the seven injured workers and their families. One of the seven remains hospitalized.

Contributions to both funds can be sent to Amegy Bank, P.O. Box 27459, Houston, TX 77227.

The death and injuries occurred when a severe thunderstorm with high winds and lightning struck the campus around 4 p.m. June 19.

The injured workers — Carlos Ayala, Natividad Chinchilla, Jorge Guzman, Bobby Martin, Emigdio Moreno, Douglas Padilla and Noel Puente — are employees of Lucia, a masonry firm performing work for the general contractor for the project, Linbeck Group L.L.C.

Work at the site resumed Monday.
