It’s another record-breaking fall for Rice University as the largest class of freshmen – about 790 at the last count – arrive Sunday.  That bests last year’s mark by about 50 students.

O-Week — the weeklong orientation program designed to acquaint students with their new campus, residential colleges and classroom colleagues — kicks off Aug. 17 with move-in activities for students and their families. The Chronicle of Higher Education will be on campus Sunday to photograph the students’ arrival. As the day winds down, families will depart and a matriculation ceremony and procession for the new students will begin.

Activities and presentations throughout the week will introduce new students to academic and social life at Rice by providing academic advising, help with class registration, small group discussions, faculty lectures and community outreach. A barbecue dinner at President David Leebron’s home will further welcome new students into the close-knit Rice community.
