Save your Styrofoam

Save your Styrofoam

Members of the Rice community can help create the next art installation at Rice Gallery by contributing Styrofoam to the effort.

Artist Michael Salter will be creating a “Styrobot,” a giant robot made of the environmentally unfriendly polystyrene used to pack and ship fragile objects like electronics. He will need thousands of pieces of Styrofoam — not the soft kind and not packing peanuts, but rather they kind typically used to pack computers or computer monitors.

The Rice community is asked to save any and all Styrofoam for the artist to use in his installation, which will open Nov. 6. Collections will continue through Oct. 31. Styrofoam can be delivered to 352 Sewall Hall, or contact David Krueger at 713-348-2004 to schedule a pickup.
