Rice hosts day camps after Ike

Athletics offers solution for school kids affected by hurricane

With power out across much of the Houston area in the wake of Hurricane
Ike, Rice coaches and student-athletes offered day camps for the
children of Rice faculty and staff who didn’t have day care available.Campers spent time at the Rice track and tennis courts before capping their day
with golf lessons on the university’s intramural fields.

The children will attend the Owls’ soccer match against McNeese State.
Kickoff for the match is set for 4 p.m. at the Rice Track and Soccer
Stadium.

“We’re extremely happy that the Athletics Department and Recreation Center could team up to help the Rice family as we all
attempt to recover from Hurricane Ike,” said Chris Del Conte, director
of athletics.
