Iron Chef Rice

JEFF FITLOW
Rice chefs faced off Dec. 9 at the first American Culinary
Federation-approved National Association of College & University
Food Services Culinary Challenge Competition held at the North Servery.
The chefs had to prepare their own original recipe, complementing trout
with a starch, vegetable and sauce. Each competitor also had to
demonstrate his or her organizational and time-management skills.

Selena Rivera, North Servery pastry chef, placed first and will
represent Rice at the NACUFS Southern Regional Conference in March,
hosted by the University of North Carolina. Other winners were, second
place, Ahmed Mihabi (above), Cohen House executive chef; third place,
Gabriel Aguilar, Sid Richardson College cook; fourth place, Kyle
Hardwick, South Servery executive chef; fifth place, Olivia Waldron,
South Servery general manager; and sixth place, Raniel Posadas, Will
Rice College cook.

Rice chefs have been participating in the culinary competition since 2001.
