Delivery Services to offer limited service over holiday recess

The campus post office will close at 2 p.m. Dec. 24 and will reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 6. The last mail run/pickup Dec. 24 will be at 1 p.m.

FedEx will operate on a regular schedule Dec. 24. Outgoing FedEx can be deposited in drop-boxes on campus for the 6:30 p.m. pickup.

Delivery Services will be open during the recess Dec. 29, 30 and 31 from 8 a.m. to noon. Departments that require mail delivery during the recess must send an e-mail to Delivery Services Manager Ute Franklin, umf@rice.edu. Deliveries will be made on those three days between 10 and 11 a.m.

Departments can also schedule a designated person to pick up mail during these three days between 8 a.m. and noon. Send an e-mail to umf@rice.edu to name the person from your department who will pick up the mail.

Those expecting shipments during the recess from the Postal Service, FedEx, UPS or other couriers that require special handling should send an e-mail to umf@rice.edu. Provide the recipient’s name, phone number, department, instructions for handling and courier name. Otherwise, Delivery Services will hold all shipments received during the recess and distribute them beginning Jan. 5.

On the days during the recess that Delivery Services is closed, the Postal Services, UPS, FedEx and other couriers will deliver overnight shipments to the campus police department. On these days, deliveries can be picked up at the police department by the addressee with appropriate identification. Shipments not picked up will be retrieved by Delivery Services on the next working day (Dec. 29, 30 or 31) and can be picked up between 8 a.m. and noon.
