Environmental planning expert Timothy Beatley, the Teresa Heinz Professor of Sustainable Communities at the University of Virginia, will speak on “Green Urbanism: Planning for Sustainable and Resilient Cities” Feb. 16.

TIMOTHY BEATLEY

Beatley believes cities hold potential for addressing global environmental issues and that green urban living and design hold the best hope for a more sustainable and resilient future. Beatley is the author or co-author of several recent books that analyze green urban trends and document a number of these green city innovations, including “Green Urbanism: Learning from European Cities,” “Green Urbanism Down Under” and “Resilient Cities.”

The lecture will be at 7:30 p.m. in Keck Hall, Room 100.

This event is co-sponsored by Rice’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, the Center for the Study of Environment and Society, the Office of Sustainability and the 2009 DeLange Conference.
