History’s Byrd to read from, sign new book Feb. 23
Alexander Byrd, associate professor of history, will read from his
recently published book “Captives and Voyagers: Black Migrants Across
the Eighteenth-Century British Atlantic World” at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23in
Herring Hall, Room 100. A discussion of the book, reception and book
signing will follow the reading.
Byrd, a 1990 graduate of Rice, is an expert in Afro America,
especially black life in the Atlantic world and the Jim Crow South, and
teaches African-American history and the history of the African
diaspora.
The event is sponsored by Multicultural Community Relations/Public Affairs and the Association of Rice University Black Alumni.
