The South Colleges renovations and additions project officially got under way this week with an informal groundbreaking ceremony in the Will Rice College Quad. Manning the shovel at the ceremony Tuesday were Larry Vossler, left, project manager with Facilities, Engineering and Planning, and Laura Carrara-Cagni, project manager for Hopkins Architects-USA, the design architect for this project.

Construction fences have gone up at the work site for the project, which is expected to be completed in July 2010. The South Colleges project will include new bed towers for Baker College and Will Rice College. The ’55 wing of Will Rice College will be demolished. A total of 82 new beds will be added to the renovated colleges.
