In the video, Tapia tells his story of growing up as an American born of Mexican parents and describes what drives him to teach students of all backgrounds on how to succeed.

Tapia is one of nine members featured at the organization’s Web site, which offers details on a summer leadership institute, a national conference, networking and job listings.

Tapia recently won a Faculty Initiative Fund grant to start the Community and Mentoring Program for Undergraduate Success. The program will enrich Rice undergraduates’ experience during their freshman year, a time when they most need to feel connected to the university’s intellectual environment and be exposed to role models.
