Departments are invited to clear their desks and closets of such items as dead batteries, unneeded office supplies and empty toner/ink cartridges and bring those items to the Grand Hall between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Aug. 6.
Tables will be set up and marked by categories for items to swap, including appointment books, binders, business card holders, calculators, clipboards, coffee pots, dividers, organizers, easels, envelopes, FedEx shipping supplies, file folders, highlighters, index cards, note pads, pens, pencils, rubber bands and more.
Recycling bins will be available for dead batteries, dead cell phones, empty toner/ink cartridges, bubble wrap, packing peanuts and electronics.
Employees can return between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and take what they need for free. Any items not picked up by the end of the event will be donated to a charitable organization.
Through Aug. 5, departments can leave their items for the event in a box marked “FREE-CYCLING” in their outgoing mail, and Delivery Services staff will pick up the boxes. Donating departments that have large quantities for pickup should contact Delivery Services at rrojas@rice.edu to schedule a pickup before Aug. 5. The items will be delivered to Grand Hall on the morning of Aug. 6.
For more information or to help with the event, contact Ute Franklin at umf@rice.edu.
