Lovely day for a walk

NASA
Astronaut John “Danny” Olivas ’96 removed an empty ammonia tank from the international space station’s truss Sept. 1 during the first of three planned spacewalks. Olivas, who traveled to the space station aboard space shuttle Discovery Aug. 28, expects to spend a total of 19.5 hours working outside the complex. Olivas earned his doctorate in mechanical engineering at Rice. This is his second space flight. In 2007, he took a pair of spacewalks to add truss segments and a solar array to the space station.
