Rice student named correspondent for Glimpse
Courtney Ng will chronicle Peruvian experiences for National Geographic online publication

After a spending a month up to her elbows in dirt and relics, Courtney Ng is further digging into Peru. Literally and figuratively.

Courtney Ng will chronicle her experiences abroad in Glimpse, an online publication supported by the National Geographic Society. One of Ng’s adventures led her to Ollantaytambo, a fortress and ceremonial center where the emperor Manco Inca Yupanqui defeated Spanish conquistadors.

Supported by a Loewenstern Fellowship this summer, Ng traveled to a small town near Machu Picchu in the Andean Cloud Forest to volunteer with Projects Abroad in helping to clear and preserve Incan ruins on a nearby mountain. Having relocated to Lima for the semester through a program with Rice’s Study Abroad, she is now studying Andean archaeology and Quechua, the most widespread indigenous language of Peru, at the Pontificia Universidad Cat
