Siler goes ‘On the Town’

FROM RICE NEWS STAFF REPORTS

Rice’s Tamara Siler, in the role of
Hildy, drives sailor Chip (Adam Gibbs) around New York in a taxi in
Leonard Bernstein’s “On the Town.” The musical opens Sept. 10 for five
performances.

Tamara Siler ’87, senior associate director of admission and
coordinator of minority recruitment at Rice, is singing and dancing
again — this time in Leonard Bernstein’s “On the Town.”

And she can cook, too, according to the lyrics of one of the Bernstein classics that she gets to belt out in this musical about three sailors on 24-hour shore leave in New York City during wartime 1944. Siler stars as Hildy, a taxi driver and girlfriend of one of the sailors.

This Bayou City Concert Musicals production opens Sept. 10 for five performances at Heinen Theatre, 3517 Austin at Holman in Houston’s midtown area. The performances are at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10, 8 p.m. Sept. 11 and 12, and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13. For ticket info, visit http://bayoucityconcertmusicals.org/.

Earlier this year Siler performed in a local production of “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” and last year she starred in Main Street Theater’s “Caroline, or Change.”
