Wade Adams, director of Rice’s Richard E. Smalley Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Materials Research Society, which advances the cause of interdisciplinary research in materials sciences. He will serve a three-year term.

Nathan Tallent, a graduate student in computer science, has been selected as one of two 2009 George Michael Memorial High Performance Computing Fellows. The fellowship honors research excellence and academic progress and is sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society, the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Computer Architecture and the SC Conference Series.
