Chamber music concert

The very next night, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m.,
students from the Shepherd School of Music will present a chamber music
recital in Duncan Recital Hall. The program is free and open to the
public.

Rice’s Shepherd School of Music will welcome the Boston Camerata to Stude Concert Hall at 8 p.m. Dec. 8 as the ensemble performs “A Mediterranean Holiday Program: Christian, Muslim, and Jewish Sephardic Music.” The program is presented by the Houston Friends of Music, and its musical offerings range across regions and religions.

Audience members will hear multicultural, blended music that spans roughly 700 years — from 1200 to 1900 — and hails from Provence, Tuscany, Spain, the Balkans and Morocco.

Recognized as America’s pre-eminent early music ensemble, the Boston Camerata was founded in 1954 and has continued to share both vocal and instrumental music for more than 50 years. Houston Friends of Music was founded 49 years ago for the purpose of presenting great chamber music by great performers.

To purchase tickets, which range from $19 to $72, call 713-348-5400 or visit www.HoustonFriendsofMusic.org.
