Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus to speak at Rice’s commencement Saturday

EVENT: Rice University’s 2010 commencement

DATE: May 15

TIME: 8:30-11:30 a.m.

SPEAKER: Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, author of the best-seller “Banker to the Poor: Micro-Lending and the Battle Against World Poverty”

LOCATION: Outdoors on the Academic Quadrangle (rain location: Tudor Fieldhouse). A media room – with robes for photographers – will open at 7:30 a.m. in 103B Lovett Hall.

PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES: News media photographers will have to shoot from an area that is at least 73 feet from the stage so that they remain out of the range of university video cameras that are recording the entire ceremony; telephoto lenses are highly recommended, as are plug-in transmitters for wireless access to sound from a mult box positioned on the south side of the quadrangle. Photographers must check in at 103B Lovett Hall, where they will be given a black robe to wear while taking pictures out on the quadrangle. They must be escorted by a member of the News and Media Relations staff to the area on the quad designated for photographers.

PARKING: News media may enter at Entrance 1 at 6100 Main St. Turn right at the stop sign and park in the lot by the Visitor Parking sign. A press badge or similar credentials will be needed to gain access through Entrance 1.
