The Rice Student Center’s Kerim Davis, assistant director for student businesses, and Erin Dement, assistant director for programs and marketing, have been awarded the 2010 Professional Development Award from the Association of College Unions International. Recipients are selected based on their ability to distinguish themselves through excellence in service to their home campus while working within the union or student activities office.

Onja Razafindratsima, a graduate student in ecology and evolutionary biology, has been awarded a prestigious Franklin Mosher Baldwin Fellowship from the Louis Leakey Foundation. This highly selective fellowship is intended for scholars with citizenship in a developing country who seek to obtain an advanced degree or specialized training in an area of study related to human origins research. Razafindratsima has also been selected as an International Peace Fellow by the Philanthropic Educational Organization, which provides scholarships for promising international women students to pursue graduate study in the United States and Canada. In addition to these two fellowships, Razafindratsima has also been awarded grants from the Explorers Club of America, the Primate Society of Great Britain and the Primate Conservation International to support her summer abroad in Madagascar, where she will study the importance of seed dispersal by lemurs in the nation’s rainforest.
