Conference at Rice’s Shell Center for Sustainability to look at land-use issues
More than 18 speakers will take part in a daylong conference titled “Sustainable Land Use — Creating a Better Future for the Houston Region” Oct. 5 in Robert McNair Hall’s Shell Auditorium. The conference is free and open to the public.
Rice’s Shell Center for Sustainability organized the conference, which begins at 8 a.m.
Speakers will include Harris County Judge Ed Emmett ’71; Robert Yaro, president of the Regional Plan Association — a metropolitan policy, research and advocacy group; and Stephen Klineberg, professor of sociology and co-director of Rice’s Institute for Urban Research.
The conference will focus on issues facing Houston, with panels discussing “Where Can We Go?,” “What We Are,” “What Tools Do We Have?” and “What Policies and Mechanisms Will It Take To Get There?”
