Current and former members of the Rice baseball program volunteered last
weekend to help during a children’s baseball clinic for The Boys &
Girls Club of Houston.
Current Rice baseball players Abe
Gonzales, Anthony Rendon and J.T. Chargois reviewed some of the game’s
fundamentals with more than 50 young baseball fans at the Boys &
Girls Club facility on the northwest side of town.
The service
opportunity was organized by Rice baseball alumni Kenny Baldwin ’79 and
Allen Ramirez, who went on to play in the major leagues after an
All-America career with the Owls. Baldwin is president of SpringSpirit
Baseball, a Houston-based nonprofit organization working to provide a
pathway for developing the mind, body and spirit of Houston youths.
