Rice’s Smalley Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology formally unveiled portraits of its Nobel laureates, Richard Smalley (in the left painting) and Robert Curl, in their new home in the Space Science and Technology Building. The portraits by artist Noahs Hu, first seen at this summer’s Buckyball Discovery Gala, were installed in the late Smalley’s former office, Space Science 301. Curl is Rice’s University Professor Emeritus and the Kenneth S. Pitzer-Schlumberger Professor Emeritus of Natural Sciences. The portraits were donated by Rice research scientist Carter Kittrell and Djehane and Robert Hauge, a distinguished faculty fellow in chemistry. Among those at the unveiling Nov. 16 were, from left, Smalley Institute Director Wade Adams and his wife, Mert; Hu; and Djehane and Robert Hauge. |
