Shepherd School concert manager Tom Littman dies just before holidays

The Rice University community is mourning the loss of Thomas Littman ’77, who passed away unexpectedly Dec. 22. He was 56.

Littman was the concert manager of Rice’s Shepherd School of Music for the past 24 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rice and his MBA from the University of Texas.

“Words cannot begin to capture what Tom meant to us, or what the Shepherd School meant to Tom,” said Robert Yekovich, dean of the Shepherd School. “He has been the extraordinary concert manager of the Shepherd School and a pivotal figure within the school’s community since 1986.”

He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend and colleague. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Littman. He is survived by his mother, Rosemarie Littman, brother and sister-in-law John and Robin Littman, and nieces Rachel and Eva Littman.

Littman’s funeral was Dec. 24 at Evergreen Memorial Park in his hometown of Wharton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the Shepherd Society, Rice University, MS-532, P.O. Box 1892, Houston, TX 77251.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall.
