Malcolm Ross O’Neill, assistant secretary of the U.S. Army, will present ”Science and Technology Contributions to the Soldier” at the 14th annual Harold E. Rorschach Memorial Lecture at Jan. 24.
The lecture, which is sponsored by the Department of Physics and Astronomy, will be held at 4 p.m. in the Sadie R. Smith Auditorium in Herzstein Hall. A reception will be held immediately after the lecture in Duncan Hall’s Martel Hall.
O’Neill leads an illustrious scientific team that is pursuing technological advancements in several important areas, including network science, power and energy, autonomous systems, nanotechnologies and medicine. Like the decisive systems in today’s military – the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 Raptor, the U.S. Navy’s nuclear-powered attack submarines and the U.S. Army’s M-1 tank – the Army is pursuing technological advancements to ensure that the foot soldier is a decisive weapon on the battlefield. O’Neill’s lecture will focus on U.S. Army efforts to further empower these soldiers.
