The current issue of Cite is Texas tough.
The architecture and design review of Houston published by the Rice Design Alliance comes wrapped in a cover that defies destruction. Made by a Houston company, Valéron Strength Films, the polymer-based material personifies an issue about the city’s manufacturing and fabrication industry. "We asked writers to talk with the people who make things in Houston," said Cite editor Raj Mankad. "We did that to challenge designers and architects to do more with this incredible resource to make more sustainable, more beautiful, more innovative projects." The cover depicts a control panel at Brochsteins, the Houston architecture firm that was for many years under the direction of Rice alumnus, architect and benefactor Raymond Brochstein ’55. Cite is available at the Rice campus bookstore, Brazos Bookstore, Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Issues, Domy, River Oaks Bookstore, and elsewhere. It is also available at the RDA office on the Rice University campus at 149 Anderson Hall. Call RDA at 713-348-4876 to be mailed a copy or subscribe online at Citemag.org. |
