People, papers and presentations

The University of Maine will award Douglas Brinkley, professor of history and fellow in history at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, an honorary doctorate in the humanities for his work in public policy on preserving U.S. wilderness. Brinkley will also deliver the commencement address at the university May 7.

Rice undergraduates Ann Chou, Cindy Dinh, Chris Fan, Trishna Narula, Josh Ozer and Karthik Soora won the Innovation Award in Emory University’s 2011 Emory Global Health Case Competition March 19 in Atlanta. The competition, which attracted 20 teams, challenged students with a realistic problem scenario in global health. Teams were required to consider sustainability, tradeoffs and interdisciplinary perspectives in coming up with actionable recommendations to address the problem.

Entries for ”People, Papers, Presentations” should be submitted to the Office of News and Media Relations by email to ricenews@rice.edu or campus mail to MS 300.
