Next week a team of Rice University students  —  from left, Jeff Montgomery, Edward Rowe, Nolan Waugh and Evan Bertrand — will compete in Omaha, Neb., for the Americas Regional Final for the Global Investment Research Challenge.

Evan Bertrand, Jeff Montgomery, Eddie Rowe and Nolan Waugh – all students in the Jones Graduate School of Business – won the local competition with an “outstanding oral presentation,” according to the judges. For the win, each member of the team will receive full reimbursement for the next level of their CFA exams, as well as the trip to Omaha.

The teams are judged on how well they can analyze, write and present a report recommending a “buy,” “sell” or “hold” position on a publicly traded company. This year’s target company for the Texas competition was Cal Dive International.

The local competition was held at Rice during the Texas Investment Portfolio Symposium. More than 200 students, faculty and investment professionals from Texas and the Southwest attended the symposium, where they could interact with senior investment industry professionals through three keynote presentations, two panel discussions and multiple networking events.
