Sayantan Chatterjee, a graduate student in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, placed first in the poster competition at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Gulf Coast Section Young Professionals Emerging Engineers Conference June 2. He presented 2-D modeling work on “Effects of Lithologic Heterogeneity and Focused Fluid Flow on Gas Hydrate Distribution in Marine Sediments.” The same presentation earned Chatterjee second prize in the Ph.D. division of the SPE Regional Student Paper Contest at Texas A&M University in April.

Anthony Pinn, the Agnes Cullen Arnold Professor of Humanities and professor of religious studies, was honored by the Empowerment Community Center’s Mentoring, Educating and Networking (M.E.N) program at a June 6 event titled “The Power and Purpose of Men and Mentorship: Mentorship, Not by Choice, by Mandate.” M.E.N.’s agenda is to serve young men in the Houston community and surrounding areas with a five-point agenda: academic and professional development, relationship enhancement, social foundation, personal presentation, and health and wellness.
