Rice University Provost George McLendon to testify before US Senate committee
McLendon will discuss nanotechnology research and funding
Rice University Provost George McLendon will testify before the Science and Space Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation at 10 a.m. EDT Thursday, July 14, in Washington, D.C.
The subcommittee is chaired by Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., and is also led by its ranking member, Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark. McLendon was invited to discuss the committee’s hearing topic, ”The National Nanotechnology Investment: Manufacturing, Commercialization and Job Creation.”
McLendon will address the role of academia to bring research discoveries to the point of commercialization. He will cite examples of successes of university-led research and how these discoveries can lead to job creation and innovations to improve the environment, energy and Americans’ way of life.
Who: George McLendon, the Howard H. Hughes Provost and Chemistry Professor at Rice University in Houston.
