New Rice video shows school’s mascot watching over students, faculty and staff

In June, Rice University photographer Tommy LaVergne shot photos of three baby owls (links below) born on the university’s forested campus. And now Rice video producer Brandon Martin has shot footage of two owls keeping an eye on the school’s students, faculty and staff.

Rice University’s mascot is an owl, and owls are included in the school’s academic seal as symbols of wisdom.

Martin is unsure if these Rufous Morphs owls – also called Texas Orange screech owls – are the same ones that LaVergne photographed in June on Rice’s 285-acre campus. These owls are typically found in East Texas. To learn more about them, go here.
