Baker Institute conference to weigh status of US health care reform

Five of the nation’s foremost health economists will consider the implications of the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for the U.S. health care system at a daylong conference Nov. 11 at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.

Who: Amitabh Chandra, Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; Mark Duggan, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania; Martin Gaynor, Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University; David Grabowski, Harvard Medical School; and Kosali Simon, School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University.

What: Conference on “National Health Care Reform: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”

When: 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11.

The Baker Institute is hosting its third biennial conference on health care reform to consider the implications of the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for the U.S. health care system and the well-being of the population. The five speakers will discuss issues including the economic underpinnings of the health care reform legislation, the current status and future for the prescription drug industry and the long-term care sector. Duggan, who will be the keynote speaker at lunch, served on President Barack Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers when the Affordable Care Act was passed in March 2010.
