MARGARET FORD FISHER
Members of the Rice community are invited to “An Evening at Rice University for a Community Dialogue on Urban Education” featuring author and education researcher Margaret Ford Fisher.
The talk will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 in Duncan Hall’s McMurtry Auditorium. Held as part of a Black History Month celebration, the talk will be hosted by Rice’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
The conversation will explore the vision and plan included in Ford Fisher’s newly released book, “Learning for Ownership: Empowering African-American Students for Success in a 21st-Century Society,” to improve the persistence and outcomes of African-American students in urban schools. This educational forum is designed to contribute to the conversation about ways to curtail the widening achievement gap of African-American students and to implement strategies for improvement.
Ford Fisher has more than 30 years of experience in the field of education. She has conducted extensive research on teaching and learning and is the author of “High School Students Earning College Credit: A Guide to Creating Dual-Credit Programs” and a teacher-student interaction instrument that assesses teachers’ stages of ethnicity.
RSVP for this talk by Feb. 1 by contacting Judy Foston at jfoston@fostoninternational.com or 866-922-2544.
