FROM RICE NEWS STAFF REPORTS

The 21st Annual KTRU Outdoor Show will feature free concerts from noon until 10 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, in the Central Quad and Rice Memorial Center.

Two stages will be set up for a variety of musical acts. Among the big-name performers are Houston rapper Slim Thug, Brooklyn punk rockers Titus Andronicus, Portland indie punks The Thermals, Brooklyn synthpop duo Chairlift and former Houstonian Jana Hunter’s current act, Lower Dens. Local acts include SwaraRagaLaya, The Energy, The Demonic Hen, The Wild Moccasins and the winner of the KTRU Student Battle of the Bands — Jesus, the Crazy and the Bad Kids.

In addition to musical acts, the event will feature Bernie’s Burger Bus and other food trucks, student organization booths, merchandise booths and a beer garden offering beverages from  Willy’s Pub. Some food trucks may accept credit cards but all other purchases will accept cash only. Coolers are not allowed, and only alcoholic beverages served in the beer garden are permitted.

Parking will be free in designated campus lots, but paid parking closer to the event location will also be available.

The event was organized by KTRU Rice Radio with support from the Rice Program Council and the Houston Enriches Rice Education Project and additional sponsorship by Saint Arnold Brewing Company, iHeartRadio and SK808 Wheels.
