Rice student-athletes earn honors for achievement in the classroom

Rice University student-athletes earned Conference USA honors this week for their achievement in the classroom.

Rice earned the top spot on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll during the 2011-12 academic year, with 232 Owls maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Thirty-eight student-athletes from Rice also earned the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal during the 2011-12 academic year. The medals are awarded to Conference USA student-athletes who have achieved a grade point average of 3.75 or better.

A record 2,433 C-USA student-athletes earned recognition on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll this year, up more than 6 percent from a year ago. The University of Central Florida ranked second, with 221 student-athletes on the list, and Memphis ranked third with 218.
