Rice architecture students mount gallery exhibition

Rice University School of Architecture (RSA) students will present an exhibition of printed matter at the Peel Gallery, 4411 Montrose Blvd., Houston, from April 26 to May 4.

The exhibition is based on a seminar, “The Architecture of Books,” taught by Reto Geiser, RSA’s Wortham Assistant Professor. The seminar focused on the importance of visual literacy in printed material integral to architectural practice. According to the gallery, Geiser introduced students to the book as a way to think about the production of space and as a critical vessel to discuss and disseminate architectural ideas.

Students were challenged to design books based on a 1963 essay, “Transparency,” by Colin Rowe and Robert Slutzky.

The exhibition opens with a reception April 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.
