Centennial video series: Rice’s ‘physics museum’

On the second floor of Hertzstein Hall at Rice University sits a collection of physics equipment that dates back to the opening of the Physics Department nearly 100 years ago. Over the past century, faculty have saved these treasures knowing that students and faculty in years to come would appreciate the equipment for its teaching and sentimental value. Stanley Dodds, associate professor of physics and astronomy, has been the curator of the current display for three decades.

Working with Centennial Historian Melissa Kean, video producer Brandon Martin takes a look at Rice’s historical physics equipment with Dodds. To learn more about Rice’s history, visit Kean’s blog at www.ricehistorycorner.com.

To help celebrate the university’s centennial Oct. 12, Rice University is producing weekly videos exploring the school’s unique history.
