With a little more than a month to go until the Nov. 6 elections, budget professionals, legislators, education and business leaders will share their perspectives on the 2013 Texas Legislature Oct. 3 at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.
“Perspectives on the Texas Legislature: 2013 Session” conference, hosted by Rice’s Hobby Center for the Study of Texas and the Baker Institute, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Baker Hall’s Doré Commons.
Speakers include, in order of appearance, Billy Hamilton, former deputy comptroller of Texas; Evan Smith, editor-in-chief and CEO of the Texas Tribune; Joe Straus, R-San Antonio, speaker of the Texas House of Representatives; Mark Jones, Baker Institute fellow in political science; Rodney Ellis, D-Houston, Texas state senator for District 13; and Mike Moses, former Texas commissioner of education. Additional speakers include John Sharp, chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, and John Montford, a former chancellor of Texas Tech University and former Texas state senator.
