Rice University Centennial Celebration culminates with ‘A Conversation with the Chief Justice’

HOUSTON – (Oct. 9, 2012) – Rice University’s Centennial Celebration and Centennial Lecture Series will culminate with Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts, Jr. visiting campus at 3 p.m. Oct. 17 for “A Conversation with the Chief Justice.” The event will be held at Rice’s Tudor Fieldhouse.

The program will begin with Chief Justice Roberts offering opening remarks and then participating in a conversation with Rice President David Leebron. There will also be a question-and-answer period during the hourlong event.

What: “A Conversation with the Chief Justice.”

When: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Where: Rice University’s Tudor Fieldhouse, 6100 Main St., Houston. The event will be webcast live at http://webcast.rice.edu.

For security clearance, media who want to cover the event must submit the following information by noon Oct. 15 to David Ruth, Rice’s director of national media relations, at david@rice.edu.

Due to time constraints, the Chief Justice will not be available for media interviews prior to or after the event. The question-and-answer portion of the program is reserved for the audience.

There will be a building security sweep conducted prior to the event. All media gear must be at Tudor Fieldhouse by 1:30 p.m.

Chief Justice Roberts received his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was editor of Harvard Law Review. He has served as special assistant to the attorney general for the U.S. Department of Justice, as associate counsel to President Ronald Reagan and as principal deputy solicitor general for the U.S. Department of Justice. He was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2003. President George W. Bush nominated him as Chief Justice, and he took his seat on the U.S. Supreme Court in 2005.
