Rice United Way Campaign reaches 84 percent of its goal

Make a meaningful difference with a United Way contribution

As the 12th week of the 2012-13 Rice United Way Campaign comes to a close, Rice has raised 84 percent of its $175,000 goal.

Pledges and contributions total $146,476, with the School of Natural Sciences leading the campus in funds raised with $18,810. The Administration Division has the highest number of donors — 198 — and the Public Affairs Division leads the campus with 100 percent participation.

Donations to the United Way of Greater Houston allow thousands of people in the Greater Houston area the chance for a better tomorrow. Supporting people throughout the circle of life, including children, seniors, families and those rebuilding their lives, the United Way has a significant impact in the community. Just last year, United Way helped more than 375,000 Houstonians with basic needs, such as food and shelter, and answered almost a million calls for assistance made to the 2-1-1 Texas/United Way HELPLINE.

Touching nearly one of every two lives in the Houston area, the United Way works to support the community, and the generosity of those who give makes this possible.  During this holiday season, Rice employees are asked to remember those in the community who are less fortunate and to consider making a meaningful difference in their lives.

Employees can make a pledge payable by payroll deductions spread over all paychecks in calendar (and tax) year 2013 by logging in to ESTHER (http://esther.rice.edu) or filling out and mailing the United Way pledge form. To make a cash, check or credit card contribution for tax year 2012, print, complete and mail the pledge form found at www.rice.edu/unitedway.
