Rice United Way Campaign reaches 99 percent of goal
In the spirit of the holiday season, Rice Board of Trustees Chair Jim Crownover ’65 has extended his generous matching offer for United Way contributions into the new year to help Rice employees make a real difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate in the Greater Houston community. Rice has raised 99 percent of its $175,000 goal with pledges, supplemented by the match, totaling $173,685.
Last week Crownover announced that he will match 2-to-1 all pledges made by first-time donors to the Rice Campaign for the United Way during December and match 1-to-1 gifts by all past donors who renew their support, to help the campaign achieve its goal and possibly surpass last year’s fundraising total.
Last year, the United Way of Greater Houston touched the lives of nearly half of the residents of the community and focused on four broad areas of need: children, families, seniors and those who are rebuilding their lives after natural disasters and personal crises. Donations to the United Way allow Rice’s neighbors the chance for a better tomorrow; by taking advantage of the match offer, Rice employees can enable their gifts to go even further.
Rice employees can contribute by payroll deduction by logging in to ESTHER (http://esther.rice.edu) or filling out and mailing the United Way pledge form, and their pledge will be divided among the paychecks in 2013. Faculty and staff can also contribute today by cash, check or credit card by printing, completing and mailing the pledge form found at www.rice.edu/unitedway.
